On Waiting...

Isaiah 25:9 “Behold this is our God; We have waited for Him and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”

Waiting is a part of every Christian’s life. The knowledge that at the end of the wait there is redemption, and hope in that redemption, is what gives us the grace to wait. The verse goes a step further and says that we will rejoice and be glad in the midst of waiting – not just at the end of the wait.

Isaiah 30:12 “You despise this word and trust in oppression and perversity and rely on them.”

The evidence of problems and hardship seem to be more true and real than the Word. The Word says that God blesses those who trust in Him and wait for Him. But that seems to last forever - the waiting I mean - and nothing seems to happen. On the other hand when things go wrong, those circumstances seem more real than God’s promises.

Isaiah 30:15,16 “In returning and rest you shall be saved. In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” But you would not and you said, “No, for we will flee on horses…we will ride on swift horses.”
God doesn’t ask anything from us. He just wants us to stay with Him and trust in Him. There isn’t work involved on our part. He just wants us to rest, be quiet and have complete confidence in Him. And ofcourse, the main thing is return to Him. All this involves “being” not “doing”. Yet when faced with an issue, my inclination is to solve it or think of a solution. “Being” is a conscious choice and an act of will. It doesn’t come naturally, at least not for me. I like to control and know what’s going to happen next. Leaving everything in someone else’s hands, (however capable) is a struggle that I face on a regular basis. But actually, I am the one who is making it more complicated. What He gives and expects is far simpler.
